NIV 2 Peter 3:8-10 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
The older one gets the fast time seems to pass. The reality is that time does not change just our perception of it. Two thousand years seems like a long time ago. Some human beings my live to be a hundred years old. No human being lives to be a thousand years old. We are very limited by time. It is a measurement we both use and fear. In this world our time begins with birth and ends with our death.
Time also has a master. Time itself is a creation. Time has a birth and a death. God has made this so. Times only reason for existence is for us. It is a time of preparation. It is a time of learning. The lesson we are supposed to learn is love. The lesson many learn is to lie. They learn to lie to themselves. The learn to lie about their responsibility in time. The learn to lie in order to cover the lessons of love that God has placed all around us. The use the lie to keep God away.
The season of Lent is set in time. It is measured in forty days with six Sundays occuring within them. At the end of Lent, death occurs. Death that God experience. God who has joined in in time in order that we me learn the love that transcends time. Time has no hold on God. It does have a hold on us.
NIV Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
