NIV John 17:15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
Perception…..yesterday in worship the sermon was based on the new way of seeing we should have in the Lord. We have been given the opportunity to understand what is real. We do not have to be driven by the lies of this world. If we would be spiritually mature we will seek to see and respond to the truth. If we stay in our ignorance we will live in continuous danger of being mislead by the evil one.
NIV John 17:16-19 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Jesus does not ask the Father to remove us, but instead to sanctify us so that we may be Jesus presence. The truth is we are here for the purpose of learning love, the kind of love Jesus has for us. The love that sent him. The love that should motivate us to first and foremost put living for Jesus first.
As one called to be a pastor I have the joy and privilege of spending much of my time in seeking to help others with issues of faith and working in the Word to bring God’s food to you. In a way I get to be a chef. I take the ingredients God has given, the bread of life, the fountain of living water, the meat of sound doctrine, and the fruits of the Spirit and serve them to you in hope that you will be sustained and strengthen for your spiritual journey. I am so happy when I see people grow in there walk and commitment.
One of my fears is not preparing the feast correctly. One of my burdens is that I often serve this feast to those bent on spiritually dieting or who are spiritually anorexic. It is painful.
We are created to love. Love God. Love people. Love ourselves. If we love ourselves we would take care of our deepest need which is to learn how to be loved by God and to let his love flow through us to others. This is hard. It requires commitment and discernment. It requires that we see the world as it is. We do not belong here. Our priorities should not be the priorities of buying, selling, pursuing escapes called pleasure, or seeking goals that are but illusions fed by the evil one.
Lent is about awareness of the journey. Your daily, hourly, even minute by minute, second by second journey.
What will you do today for God?
What will you do today to strengthen your Spirit?
Who will you love in the name of the Lord today?
Remember, Jesus prays for us. If we are willing God will draw us and bless us.
NIV John 17:13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
